U16–18 AFL Athletic Development – 4 Week Beginner Running Program Age Group: Under 16–18 Boys & Girls Level: Beginner (Structured Training Entry) Frequency: 3 sessions per week (non-consecutive days) Primary Objective: Establish a robust aerobic foundation and introduce structured AFL-specific running demands to prepare athletes for higher-level youth and pathway training Designed for: • Athletes new to structured running programs • Players progressing from U14–15 programs but without consistent running exposure • Late developers entering representative or school-based programs Prerequisite: • Injury-free and able to jog continuously for 20 minutes Global Coaching Guidelines Consistency and pacing discipline come before intensity Athletes must finish sessions feeling challenged, not exhausted Emphasise efficient running mechanics and posture RPE Scale (1–10) 1–2 very easy | 3–4 easy | 5 steady | 6 challenging | 7 hard | 8 very hard | 9–10 maximal
